Shitlakhet Ramleela and Almora Dussehra (28 Sep – 3 Oct 2025)

This is the journey to take this October. See a community Ramleela in Shitlakhet and the Almora Dussehra 2025 – mentioned in the UNESCO list of Intangible Heritage.

This is a festival celebration like none other. A village Ramleela is one where the participants and audience are from the village itself and the Ramleela is contextualised for the local audience. At the end of the Ramleela, see the Almora Dussehra where effigies of not just Ravan, but his relatives as well are burnt.

Itinerary

28 Sep	Drive to Nayalap’s luxury tents. If time permits, go for a sunset walk in the evening.
29 Sep	Go for a walk to the village of Salla Rautela. Explore the old Kumaoni architecture. In the evening, visit Shitlakhet to see the Ramleela. Indulge in some Jalebis and Samosas on the side.
30 Sep	In the morning, hike to the Earth Homes. Your luggage will be transferred separately.
1 Oct	Indulge in an afternoon picnic lunch and hike. The picnic will be near the stream at the bottom of the valley.
2 Oct	Visit Almora to see the Dussehra 2025. Go for lunch to Kasar Devi and return to the bazaars of Almora to see the effigies made by local neighborhood teams of Ravan and his relatives.
